Blackspot? What blackspot?

June 4, 2014

In the continuing saga of Greenhill Road and the Department of  Transport’s sledgehammer  approach to banning  right-hand turns into and out of north Unley, comes  news that the Feds have kindly donated $500,000 to the project.

WHICH means that the idea now  has all the hallmarks of a done deal.

WHICH has  prompted me to revisit the statistics on accidents between George Street, Parkside and Goodwood Road.

WHICH reveals that  taking the LOWEST estimate of daily  vehicle journeys at 45,000 (the DPTI themselves have upped that to 50,ooo), multiplying that by the number of days in the five years of accident statistics (1825) and dividing THAT by the number of generally minor  accidents (107) you reach the hardly-black-spot figure of one accident every (roughly) 750,ooo vehicle journeys…LOOOONG odds.

WHICH, I would respectfully submit, does not even sneak into a GREYspot situation.

So why lash out $1.4million on a situation which hardly exists?

Doesn’t 50,000 vehicles per day classify this road as a highway then?

Yes, of course. But my comments weren’t about the road’s status, merely an observation about the comparatively small number of minor accidents, which I contend does not constitute a “blackspot”

its definitely a greyspot rather than a blackspot.
the problem is that the Government has State and Federal money ready and approved to spend on this project, hence the push to do something.
the money would be better spent at Darlington.

I don’t support the amount of money being spent here given the low number of low injury accidents. Spend it elsewhere eg. fix up Unley road.

Labor and Liberal are just as useless and wasteful as each other. The sooner people realise that the better. They have their developer mates rolling in dough so why would they care about the statistics?

From now on I’ll be voting for an independent party, like the Stop Population Growth Now Party. The Libs and Labs are pure fascists.
