Joint Council health move ends.

August 23, 2014

Unley’s shared environmental officer  scheme with Mitcham will come to an end in November, almost two years after it was instigated as a cost-sharing project.

While it is stressed  that there have been several positive benefits to Unley, the limited hours of the agreement  (15,2 hours over four days, equivalent to two full days) has caused logistical difficulties due to the increase in food businesses in the Unley area. Added to this has been the changes to the State Government’s risk inspection matrix, which has resulted in a doubling of the inspection work load..

Praising the experiment, Megan Berghuis, the General Manager Community at Unley, says that it had reaped considerable benefits and Council would consider other cross-boundary ventures as the opportunities arose.
