Parkside Primary hits the headlines

August 24, 2014

Great to see a double page spread in the  “Mundane Snail” today promoting school canteens…and in particular Parkside Primary School’s foray into the healthy world of home-grown food from their popular vegie patch.

To quote school principal Suzie Sangster: “We came up with the paddock-to-plate idea where we could grow the vegies and use them in our canteen. The children pick the produce and take it up to the canteen.  Different classes plant different things based on the type of ingredients we can use in recipes”.

Meanwhile, as reported by “Grumpy” a week or two ago, the children’s vegie patch could soon be partnered  by a new community garden. All that is needed is the expansion of the current memorandum of understanding  between Parkside Primary and Unley Council to cover not only the use of the school oval but also the garden area facing onto Young Street.
