Speling mistakes

Oh dear, oh dear!

When will our esteemed newspapers learn that they cannot rely on spell-checks to correct the grammatical  errors of their journalists?

The Sunday Mail’s back-page columnist always delights in  ridiculing sign writers and others for grammatical mistakes, ignoring the fact that his fellow scribes show an equally appalling  ignorance of the English language.

Two very recent  examples.

Cyclists were described as “peddling” their machines…which would, of course, only  be correct if they were actually selling them…

And today there was mention of a mayoral call for  illegal  advertising of a circus to be “reigned in”. A right royal goof.

And PLEASE don’t write in about the heading on this item…
