Petanque rip-off. Thanks, ACC!

December 14, 2014

petanqueimages (7)How NOT to encourage more use of the city parklands…

Just raise the annual rent for small  sporting clubs  from approximately $300 a year to $167 per month. Which, by rudimentary mathematics,  comes out at $2000. A percentage rise of (WOW)…

When representatives of the Adelaide  Club de Petanque, which plays boule on the corner of Unley and Greenhill Roads, raised the issue with the Adelaide City Council authorities recently they were merely told: “Increase your membership!”

Easier said than done when there are at least three other competing French bowls clubs in the metropolitan area.

Does anyone out there know of similar rent rip-offs by  the ACC?

P.s. I have to declare an interest in all the above. I am a LONG, LONG-time member of the club. And, no. That’s NOT me pictured above. It’s my son…

mmm..Yes, it’s a terrible, reprehensible thing when others in the community (e.g councils) do the wrong thing by sporting clubs and fail to understand their immense value to the community. I fully concur with your thoughts, Mike. Now, there’s the small matter of that club at the eastern end of Oxford Terrace? Just kidding….!

Apples and pears, GTE. Council has let Sturt get away with murder year after year. Lease after lease. Demand after demand. Rental arrears year after year. Just kidding…!

    Outrageous.
I’d like to think that it wouldn’t happen in Unley.
May I suggest a deputation to the next Adelaide Council meeting.
I’m up in Andamooka and play pétanque at dusk in the gravel in front of the pub (on the road verge) for free.
Maybe you could protest and play on the road verge in front of the club.
Get the new Mayor onto it – he’s keen to change things.
