Sturt’s “Great” honoured in Oval naming change.

December 18, 2014

Former Sturt footy great Peter Motley has been honoured by having his name given to Unley Oval , following the transfer of the  sponsorship of the Oval from Envestra to the Australia Gas Networks.

Peter played 92 league games for Sturt in 1982-1985 and was named the club’s Best and Fairest player in 1984/5.  He won the Fos Williams Medal in 1985 (being named an All-Australian the same year) and joined Carlton in the VFL,  playing  19 senior matches there in 1986/7, and was later made Sturt’s “Team of the Century”.

Sadly a serious car crash at the age of 22 cut his stellar career short.
