Love to cycle? Read on…

January 7, 2015

Unley Council, in partnership with the councils of Adelaide, Burnside, Charles Sturt, Norwood Payneham and St Peters, and West Torrens, is taking part in this year’s ” Love to ride Challenge”, an event designed to encourage cycling across the metropolitan area.

The event is planned to demonstrate a cooperative and collaborative approach to the promotion of bike riding . Previously known as  the “Tour de Work”, the challenge is a free competition  to see which workplace can encourage the most staff to ride a bike for ten minutes or more. It’s simple, fun and is based on numbers taking part, not kilometers cycled. Participants can ride anywhere, any time to be eligible to win great prizes.

The event takes place between Jan 23 and Febpennyfarthings 23.

Please note that the accompanying photograph does not purport to show any Unley Councillor or staff member, dead or alive. It was merely the silliest I could find when logging onto the large menu of available pictures of     cyclists.Correspondence or legal action will NOT be entered into. Nor comments about the picket fence…

Previous years it has been a tussle between Santos and the ACC (depending on how many people at Santos can be bothered registering). Will Unley Council set a good example this year with all Councillors riding to work, meetings and other appointments? Santos has around 15% riders during winter and up to 25% during summer. Can Unley Council match or better that and lead by example? How about Council members doing their own audits of the quality of the cycling ‘infrastructure’ in the Unley area and amalgamating all of their responses? That could save a bucket load of $$ in consultant’s fees at the same time.
