Fertility and pitfalls.

January 11, 2015

inseminationGenerally I give our print media’s obsession with “think pieces” a wide berth. Especially those from the Saturday Advertiser.

But this weekend’s  “Cost of Fertility” offering from ABC radio’s Ian Henschke caught my attention, dealing with, as it did, the recent story of two people searching for information about the sperm donors who helped create them.

And Henschke poses the intriguing question of the dilemma if a donor’s first  “donation” produces a male child and his second a girl…and they unwittingly marry. Should  it be wise for couples to be required to undergo DNA testing before they marry to ensure they are not related?

Don’t know about you, but I can see scope for the spawning of a whole generation of very different “who-dunnit” films…
