Phil The Greek’s award sparks debate.

January 26, 2015

Mrs Leonie ClynePerhaps he deserves an honor just for still being alive  and so active as  the Royal Family’s oldest inhabitant…

But should he be rewarded with distinction in the Australia Day awards?

Prince Philip’s inclusion in the list of honors has caused more than a little comment in the electronic media, but we are still to hear from Waymouth Street about the Tiser’s take on the  Republican-based furore.

Meanwhile, on a much closer-to-home note, it’s congratulations to Mrs Leonie Clyne (pictured above) for inclusion in the  ranks of recipients of the Order of Australia Medal.

Mrs Clyne, a former police prosecutor and owner of a corporate apparel business, as well as being Deputy Chancellor of Flinders University, was awarded the honour in recognition of her dedication to business and tertiary and and vocational education.

Oh yes, and she just happens to be the mother of the Mayor of Unley, Lachlan, who was unable to be at Unley’s  Australia Day celebrations  due to the little matter of a honeymoon  in Japan…

As usual, Unley Council staged an impressive ceremony in which 60 local residents received their official recognition of citizenship, followed by a very well-attended street party.
