Cemetery’s PR disaster

February 18, 2015

As far as a public relations disaster goes, you can’t go past today’s “Advertiser” front page revelation that…for the sake of $900…the remains of a First World War Digger are to be removed from their niche in a memorial wall, against the wishes of relatives, and scattered to the winds.

As a former member of the Board of Directors of Centennial Park Cemetery, and as a member of Unley Council, which shares ownership of the multi-million dollar facility with Mitcham Council, I have called upon the mayors of both councils to  call  on the cemetery board and management for an immediate decision to have the insensitive action overturned, and the fee waived.

I will also seek, as a matter of concern for the dignity of our war veterans,  to ensure that, should similar situations arise, the same respect is awarded to others who risked their lives for their country.

    Sad, so sad.
I would have thought that Centennial Park would have more understanding and perhaps subsidised the renewal fee

I hope that the Unley Mayor steps in and sorts this out quickly

    Shocking. Very sad.
Unley Council must step it and stop it.
Who are the Council’s representatives at Centennial Park? What are they doing?
What is the Mayor doing about it?
So much for the reputation of Centennial Park being the premium cemetery in SA.

I’m disgusted by the action by Centennial Park.
Just when we are about to celebrate the WW1 centenary.
Their PR person needs to start working overtime to fix the situation.
