7000 street trees facing “Power” prune.

February 26, 2015

street tree pruningJust days after placard-waving residents from St Peters and College Park took to the streets of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters to protest at allegedly over-enthusiastic street tree pruning, comes news that 7000 Unley trees are about to get the SA Power Network treatment. And some of the results will be “significant”. But not, hopefully as severe as  the example pictured above!!!

Unley Council administrration  has been liasing with SA Power Networks to ensure that the best results are achieved, and will be alerting residents to the news.

The pruning is a legislative requirement to ensure a  reliable and safe electrcity supply, but some critics of alleged  “over-enthusiasatic” work says that it is not necessary, as the whole exercise was originally based on the threat of bushfires, something of a rarity on the Adelaide Plains…

It didn’t seem to concern them too much that the tree across the road was supporting the electricity wires for at least a year.
