Tiser’s rates rant short on facts.
June 12, 2015
I can’t speak for other South Australian councils, but I CAN assure the residents of Unley that the figure of 4.1% quoted by them as a rate rise for their city is not what is being proposed.
All will be revealed at the June Council meeting.

Mike, to be fair (and the Advertiser can’t get it wrong all the time) the figure we quoted in the Annual Business Plan was a 4.1% rate rise.
We used that figure for public consultation and received 3 responses from the public.
Since then we have been working behind the scenes to cut it as hard as we can.
The likely figure to be endorsed by Council in June will be somewhat less.
Then again, anything could happen on the night. Someone might want something funded.

Bob. You’re too kind. A quick ring-around would have given the journalist up-to-date figures, or, if they were too lazy to do that, then it should have been emphasised that the rate-rise figures quoted were (as in Unley’s case) subject to a final Council decision. Sloppy, sloppy journalism and anything for a scare headline. I have little respect nowadays for a profession of which I was once proud to be a member. No longer.
