Footpath eateries? Bring your own!!!

June 19, 2015

crash barriers (7)It’s a little-known fact, gentle reader, but a true one, never-the-less.

Should the urge take you  to use the pavement furniture outside an Unley  restaurant, feel free!

The outdoor  dining policy of the City of Unley Council, in section two of its policy  objectives, states categorically that it,I quote:   “Encourages businesses to provide outdoor dining facilities designed to protect and enhance the character, heritage and amenity of the surrounding streetscape and built form.

AND RECOGNISE THAT AN APPROVED OUTDOOR DINING PERMIT OVER THE RELEVANT PUBLIC SPACE DOES NOT EXCLUDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC FROM ACCESS AND USE OF TABLES AND CHAIRS PROVIDED FOR OUTDOOR DINING”.

And NO, it’s NOT a delayed April Fool joke…It’s all there in  item 158 (pages 7 to12 of the agenda to be discussed on Monday evening (June 22).

In the policy statement it says :”The Outdoor Dining Policy is to enable the Council to safely  manage the competing needs of pedestrians, road users and business owners  by fairly assessing and permitting outdoor dining in a manner that improves the usage, quality and appearance of the city’s public realm”.

It’s something that could really set the cat among the tabletops.
