Seven-storey precedent for Unley streetscape irks FOCUS.

June 25, 2015

The Development Assessment Commission’s approval of the seven-level redevelopment of the Unley Road site opposite the Cremorne Hotel has raised the ire of FOCUS, the Friends of the City of Unley Society.

The group has invited  David Pisoni,  Unley MP,  Parliamentary Leader Greens SA Mark Parnell MLC and Steven Griffiths, Shadow Minister for Planning, to a FOCUS forum at the Unley Community Centre at 18 Arthur Street, on Tuesday July 14 (7.30 p.m) to enter the public  debate.

In a flyer promoting the meeting, FOCUS says there are four issues:

** The DAC approval process.

** Non-compliance of the project with Unley’s planning policy

** The impact on traffic, trees and Unley’s community lifestyle.

** How to prevent the project setting a poor precedent for future projects.

This will be interesting. I betcha the Liberals and the Greens will admonish the current Labor Government and express how they would do things better.
When the Liberals get back in (probably in 6-7 years) they will continue the high density (including 7 + levels) along Unley Road. The reality is that it is the State Planning Department driving the Government.
