Scandalous spendthrifts. aka politicians

June 26, 2015

Every morning you open the paper.   And every day it’s the same. Investigative journalists uncovering yet another example of our elected representatives (and ex representatives) with their snouts deep and firmly in the public trough. The latest unacceptable revelation is the news  that  Ms Gillard’s Adelaide office fit-out  cost in the high $400,000s, which is about the average price of a  family home in many parts of the country.

And don’t get me started  on the biggest and most popular rort of all. The cost of getting a Minister or lower leech on the public tit  from A to B.. $500 a day for a hire car? Give us a break.

I wouldn’t mind so much, but why don’t  the buggers  do us all  a favour and make it a one-way trip.

and Mayors and Councillors don’t get their snouts in the trough?
What about our Mayor Lachlan Clyne’s recent junket trip to Canberra?
In reality, what did he bring back?
What did he hope to achieve?
This is just an annual junket.
Will he provide a report to Council and the community?

You’re pulling a VERY long bow, Trevor. To compare a conference attendance (part of his mayoral position and duties) with the extortionate $500-per-day of a car(!!!) is highly questionable. The fact is, if he didn’t attend, as a representative of his city, you would probably see it your duty to have another snipe.
And Canberra in the winter? Been there. Done that…a “junket” served cold.

Hi Trevor, please rest assured that I will be writing a report and whilst I view there was merit in my attendance I know some will not share this view. If the trip to Canberra is like having a snout in the trough then its not much of an experience! I didn’t attend any fancy dinners on the public purse! There were some interesting ideas discussed focusing on the future trends and directions on local government across the nations Trevor.

I must say though Trevor, very good of you to be on the ball! Not many people would have known I went to Canberra. I didn’t put anything on Facebook about it, indeed, probably only a few Councillors would have known. You must be very interested in Local Government to have come across the fact, which is great Trevor. Happy to send you a report if you like or will you be getting it from elsewhere? Let me know one way or another please.

I am impressed that you provided a public response.
I will follow the Council agendas and read your report there.
much appreciated. Please include the all-up cost.

This is getting just a BIT tedious. Perhaps direct mail contact would be best for all concerned?

Surely a past Prime Minister only needs an office, desk, landline phone and a secure shared reception. $400k is a huge cost for a fit out. It must be fit for a Queen.
The cost of keeping these ex pollies is a drain on the public purse.

A drain on the public purse? Let’s flush them away.
