Unley Oval swallows another $100,000-plus of rates

July 1, 2015

unley-ovalGiven the poor take-up of seats in the Jack Oatey stand on the days that  Sturt turns Unley Oval into the Peter Motley Oval, (I  actually counted just 83 one weekend!) perhaps Unley’s long-suffering ratepayers could be saved some money by directing the faithful  fans a few   metres north. That way there would be no need to repair and reseal all the flooring  in both grandstands, an item currently destined to cost the poor,  long-suffering donors (the ratepayers) a hefty slice out of the city’s  purse.

In the detailed expenditure of the rates, listed in the budget revelations that went before Council last week for approval , it seems that $35,000  will go to the refurbishment of the Oatey  Stand timber flooring, and $50,000 for the Mackay Stand ditto. Plus $12,000 to replace the public toilet flooring, and $20,000 for salt damp treatment in the stands.

All of which comes to a total of $117,000.

(And, yes, I know the accompanying pic is out of date! I just can’t bring myelf to acknowledge the intrusion of those p…..ts).

Oops! Not according to our budget papers. Unless I have misread them. Anyway, thanks for that.
