Unley Road a tram pipe-dream

July 22, 2015

Grumpy is pretty sure that Unley Road Traders Association president James Morris won’t be getting too many Christmas cards this year from his  Goodwood Road counterparts…

Not, that is, if he has been correctly quoted by the Courier Messenger this week.

Seems that Mr Morris is all for a tram service along his particular part of the Unley traffic maze, as it would, he suggests, somewhat optimistically, move road users onto South Road or Goodwood Road.

Don’t think so, Mr Morris!!

Goodwood Road already has its own problems, which will be exacerbated when/if the State Government goes ahead with the upgrade of South Road into a non-stop extension of  the southern freeway. Any savvy motorist gives the stretch of road  between Flinders and the northern suburbs a wide berth most hours of the day, and Goodwood Road is hardly easy driving.

What is needed, as Grumpy advocates, is a park-and-ride service. Only then would the pipe-dream of an Unley Road tram turn into reality.

Push more cars onto Goodwood Road! Already chock full of cars locally as well as the outer southern sprawl.

I am now advocating to get the trams down Goodwood Road.
That will calm the traffic and divert cars to Unley Road which is wider and capable of handling a higher volume of traffic.
It will be good for business in Goodwood.
ps you are right, Mr Morris won’t be getting a Christmas card this year.
