SANFL crowd slump.

September 2, 2015

SANFL match attendances  have slumped by an “alarming” 13 percent  this season.

And my recent comments about the woeful attendance at the Double Blues’ home games …hovering around the 2000 mark…have been justified by none other than Sturt head honcho Sue Dewing.

Interviewed by Kym Morgan (see page 64 of  “The Advertiser”) , the club’s chief executive supported  the comments by Woodville/West Torrens chief Peter Schwartz that local match attendances had been adversely affected  by AFL crowds.

“The Adelaide Oval upturn is a major factor,” she is quoted as claiming. “People are time poor and some of them just do not have the time to spend a day at  Adelaide for the AFL and then also attend an SANFL match”.

Partnering with the AFL clubs, particularly Adelaide, to draw better crowds to Crows reserves games needed to be a priority in 2016.Using high-profile Crows players to promote local games  would boost attendance.

All of above  is the main reason for “Grumpy’s” persistent plaint that it is monetary madness to lavish a proposed $8million plus on the two Unley Oval grandstands, which are sparsely used when the Double Blues are at home..

Fluctuating crowd numbers are one thing. However, upgraded change rooms which, for example, have the room to cater for the modern day phenomenon of females umpires, is another issue.

OK. But not at $8.2million…And you are using the wrong “F” word when it comes to crowds. They are falling, not fluctuating!

Yeah I’m not sure about the 8 million part. The proposed function area is something I don’t know a lot about. Is there demand in the area for one? I assume the council has canvassed different groups.

Still around, eh, GTE. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. You REALLY should take evening classes on ceasing to be obnoxious .
So you disagree with the comments of Sturt’s Sue, eh. That should make for interesting conversations in the board room…
By the way, I wandered past the Oval one Saturday last season and saw EIGHTYTHREE (I double checked) spectators crammed into the Jack Oatey Stand. Wow.
Waste as much of your time as you like. I just have to take a second to press the delete button…Idiot.
