Pedal power problems.

October 30, 2015

Predictably, Grumpy has been taken to task by the pedal lobby  for having the temerity to plead the cause for pedestrians.

I want to know how pedestrians and pram-pushers, etc, will be protected from pedal-pushers ignoring the vague “ten or 15 kph” limit? How will their speed be monitored? How can the guilty parties be identified? By a number=plate? How can their speed by substantiated? What sort of vehicle insurance will they have to have? Will all footPATHS be accessible to the two-wheel brigade? Who will decide that? Who is to blame if a cyclist is injured through colliding with a Council-sanctioned “A” frame, or diners at a Council-sanctioned outdoor eatery? Will/should cyclists have to pay road tax?

I am not anti-cyclist. In my younger days I belonged to the”New Forest Wheelers”in my home county of Hampshire. We had a code of conduct that was followed strictly. And footpath riding? We would have fallen off our saddles laughing…

I agree with you on this.
Bikes should not be on the footpath.
Years ago I saw a nasty accident where a bike smashed into a car reversing from a driveway.

I do not want my children at risk from a mad cyclist speeding by on the footpath.
Footpath means a path for feet.
    The State Government is bonkers.
    It has got this wrong.
Please help change the new law.

Is Unley Council supporting this move to allow cyclists to ride on the footpath?
    A bad idea.

Roger. Of course it is a bad idea, but it will get unswerving, unthinking support from at least one of my fellow councillors. As far as Council supporting or opposing the matter, it appears that we have no say as a body in the matter. It’s just another thoughtless act emanating from the North Terrace loony bin…
