500,000 reasons for library closures

March 21, 2016

With over half a million  loans each year, any improvement to Unley Council’s system is very welcome, especially if it gives customers greater flexibility and efficiency when borrowing and returning items.

Which is why Council is proud to announce that a new collection management system will begin on Monday, May 30, taking advantage of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology.

City of Unley Library Manager Hanlie Erasmus says the customers will have  more speed, more choice and more staff assistance. “You will be able to borrow multiple items at once, and staff will  be available to assist with lengthier enquiries, as there will be less manual handling”, she says.

Goodwood Library will close from Monday May 2 until May 9, while Unley Civic Library will close between May 16 and 29. To minimise impact, when one branch is closed the other will open  extended hours.

With this drive to give customers “greater flexibility and efficiency”, and with “more staff assistance” being available, can we expect elected members to now ask that the toy library be open for exactly the same hours as the rest of Unley library? It’s an improvement which parents and grandparents have been wanting for years.

This will be a great outcome for the library users across Unley.
It will be so easy to borrow multiple items.

It is unfortunate for the library to close for any reason as it is the hub of the community & I would like it to be open for longer hours. J barton millswood

The closure will be very temporary. The result will be very long-term improvement…
