Cyclists can be banned from footpaths.

April 21, 2016

“Grumpy” has it on good authority …from a source wishing to remain anonymous…that Councils have the opportunity to seek a blanket ban in their jurisdiction on cyclists (mis and otherwise) using footpaths.

In view of the narrowness of most footpaths in Unley, perhaps the issue should be investigated, sooner rather than later, given the dangers posed by unthinking and unconcerned pedallers

The new legislation is only a few days old, but I have already witnessed enough selfish conduct to justify exploring the question of exemption.

I have a slightly different position on this.
Yes, there are cyclists who abuse the footpath and ride irresponsibly; they’ve been doing it for some time and I hope that they get caught.
However, I doubt that the new legislation will result in a mass of cyclists hitting the footpaths.
