Skull-duggery in Austria

May 9, 2016

A long, long shot, but… is there anyone out there in Grumpyland who can help me solve a mystery that has been puzzling me since a relatively recent return trip  to the Austrian province of Carinthia… decades after living there as an British Army brat in  the early post-war years.

Down south there is a wonderful lake called the Worthersee, on which there is the peninsula of Maria Worth. Returning to old haunts , I revisited the church there, and asked to see the skull-lined crypt which had so  fascinated me as an eight-year-old. Blank stares, and complete denial of it’s existence.

It would be wonderful to just know why.
