Capping your council rates

May 27, 2016

As a life=long Liberal/Conservative voter, it pains me to have to bestow praise on the Labor inhabitants of the North Terrace home for the bewildered.

But fair dos..

Today’s page 9 story in “The Advertiser” is a victory for common sense, with the idea of capped rates rightly dismissed as “populist rubbish”.

As I have said time and again in the Unley Council chamber, the harebrained populist platform has no regard for the accumulating debt already facing our ratepayers. It’s all very well spruiking ambitious programs but eventually, one way or another, the piper will have to be paid.

At a recent Local Government seminar on the subject Mayor Clyne nailed his colours to the capping mast, while stressing that it was HIS personal view. I may be wrong, but I don’t recollect Council having decided yet on the corporate stance.
