Brexit? Bravo!

June 24, 2016

P.PPTechnically I probably qualify as a Cockney…born “sarth of the river”…and within the sound of Bow Bells if the wind happened to be in the right direction.

An umpteenth generation Pom, I am delighted with the result of Brexit, even if it’s been almost half a century since I was lured to Oz. As would have been my dear old grandfather (born in Pondicherri during the years of the British Raj) and a gold medal monarchist.

Forty years is WAY too long to have been  shackled to the Continental lame ducks such as Greece and Portugal, to name just a couple.

Of course there will be internal ramifications, and there will be rumblings behind Hadrian’s Wall and the Welsh hills. But hopefully common sense will prevail and the UK will remain united…

P.s. And a great silence has descended on Grumpy Manor, with Her Indoors fuming over the exit vote. Notes are being exchanged and huffiness abounds. Meanwhile, in Manchester, Grumpy Jnr is contemplating a permanent move north of the Border.

I can understand why Britain, with it’s parliamentary tradition would find the EU grating. I feel it’s a chance for them to take back some power (and responsibility) from bureaucrats in Brussels. Besides, the Germans are not going to stop trading with the UK, or anyone else. I didn’t think the EU could stir any sort of passion in anybody, but apparently some are mortified at the result. I don’t know why.
