Mayor Clyne’s North Terrace bid?

September 10, 2016

Today’s “Off the record” column in The Advertiser reveals as a “scoop” the news that Unley Mayor Lachlan Clyne is eyeing off the Labor-held seat of Ashford, now realigned and rebadged as “Bedcoe”, in the next State election.

The fact is that the Mayor’s  North Terrace ambitions have been the subject of speculation for some months. The Clyne family move across  Anzac Highway into Plympton is common knowledge…and a  very sensible political one, given the vice-like grip that Liberal MP David Pisoni has on the Unley electorate…with a margin in or around double figures!

Added to that is the fact that Ashford was won by Labor’s Steph Key on a slim margin that owed its success to her astute  support of the local residents’ “Reopen Millswood Railway Station” campaign. Strong rumour has it that Steph is pulling the political plug at the next election, which should be welcome news for the Liberals.

Incidentally, Mayor Clyne’s role in  Unley Council is something of a family tradition. Father and police officer Robert shared the Goodwood South ward with “Grumpy” way back when . Meanwhile Lachlan is playing it cool obver B adcoe, saying only that he is “looking at it” and  that there is plenty of water that needs to go under the bridge”.

    Silly idea.
Why not stay live in Unley and contest Pisoni?
    Mayors heart in Unley.
