Roadside memorials rethink.

October 5, 2016

Sanity and sentiment at last ruled when Unley Council held an emergency meeting last night to debate the controversial issue of shrines placed roadside by grieving relatives and friends of crash victims.

Faced with a public backlash at last week’s decision to place a six-week time limit on the memorials, Council voted unanimously to  review the situation.

The result?  Council staff will liaise with family and friends over  the installation of  “alternative” arrangements for memorials, perhaps plaques, that are destined for a longer life-span than  the previously agreed timeframe.

Last week “Grumpy” was among the (very) small minority which voted against the original  and draconian six-week limit.
