Earthquakes galore

November 30, 2016

This week’s 5.2 scale earthquake near Mount Everest is just the latest in a series of tremors that have shaken Nepal in the past year.

The total in the past 365 days has seen 28 quakes, mostly in the 4.0 range, far less severe than the 7.4 episode in early 2015 that cost an estimated 10,000 lives. The effects of that quake is still being felt, with reconstruction of homes painfully slow and thousands still sheltering in canvas and corrugated iron shacks.
