Mayoral merger mystery

Questioned by Unley Councillor Bob Schnell at last night’s Council meeting, Mayor  Lachlan Clyne was unable to recall if/how  he had responded to an “Advertiser” poll of civic leaders about the future face of local Government in South Australia.

But, he told Members, he would take the matter on notice and get back to the questioner .

The question of forced mergers was prompted by an article in that morning’s daily based on comments by neighbouring Mitcham’s  Mayor, who was quoted as questioning the  independent future of councils falling below the 30,000 to 40,000 population level.

Meanwhile there is some confusion over  Mayor Clyne’s recent domestic move into the present state electorate of Ashford (currently held by Labor’s Steph Key), which will now  be  known as Badcoe .  Seems his new address is on the wrong side of the new boundary line…
