Council members face forced absence to bid for State seat.

December 16, 2016

I presume it is a move to strip Local Government Council members of any politicking advantage when campaigning for a seat in the North Terrace home for the mentally bewildered.

It’s the aim of the Hon Tung Ngo, MLC, who has come up with a bill that would see Mayors  and lesser mortals, i.e. Councillors, taking forced leave of absence, and would see the Local Government Act amended to provide leave of absence to such candidates.

Whether or not that means the candidates will have to forfeit their allowances during their forced absence  has not been made clear at the moment, but it seems obvious, to Grumpy at least, that it should be so,  as they will not be fulfilling the duties of the  post to which they were elected…
