Unley volunteers rescue bid turns sour.

July 5, 2017

It all started out as a “Grumpy” campaign (in my alter ego as Unley Council’s Parkside Ward elected member) as a plea for volunteers to retain their fuel mileage allowance between their home and place of duty.

As the saying goes…the best laid plans oft go astray.

It seems that for two years the recompense has been..to put it delicately…unwarranted, and all we were doing was to fall in line with other councils obeying the regulations!

Ouch.

However, my preference remains. I do not feel comfortable in expecting our  volunteers to be out of pocket, and if there proved to be a solution to the impasse it would get my full support. The cost would be minimal when compared with some other socially-orientated programmes. No names. No pack-drill asthe military puts it.
