Adelaide’s lost suburbs.

August 20, 2017

Borrowed a 1927 gazetteer of  Adelaide from a fellow jazz fiend at the Highway Inn during the week…and spent some time during the  Southern Jazz Club’s  intermission  wandering through the forgotten suburbs of our fair city.

Among those which have vanished (and I stand to be corrected) are a clutch of colonial nods to the Old Dart, especially along the Semaphore/Grange shoreline.” Swansea” , from Wales, of course .”Bournemouth”, in the south of England, where I began my journalistic career. And “Bristol”, on the River Severn in the West Country. And why “Harvey Town”, north of Semaphore? Or “Kirkcaldy”, just south of Grange?
