McKay’s Mart honoured

October 18, 2017

Sadly a crook back kept Grumpy away from this year’s “Small Business and Pride of Workmanship Awards” night. . .doubly sad as the top award of the evening went to my very favourite shop on Unley Road.

McKay’s Mart has been around since the 1920s and I’ve been a regular browser and buyer there for more than four of those decades, and can testify to  the friendliness and knowledge provided by the staff of the family business.

South Australian Small Business Commissioner Mr John Chapman was the special guest speaker and presented the various awards, including that to the Mart’s Peter Townsend, who accepted the overall “Pride of Workmanship”  award.

Accepting the award in front of more than 150 traders and other guests, Peter told the gathering: ” It’s an honour to have been recognised by my customers and the Unley Road business community . My family have run the mart for many decades, selling vintage furniture to customers in Unley and all over South Australia.

“We like to think of ourselves as the original recyclers!”
