Petty Party politics…and a suburban oval.
Just in case you have forgotten the circumstances, I’d like to remind you of my (correct) contention that South Australia has endured/enjoyed a Labor Government for the past three years or so thanks solely to the resurrection of the Goodwood Railway Station.
No, I’m not on the funny weed.
The above statement is unbelievable but true. The Libs, despite dire warnings from others, including Grumpy, discounted the parochial importance of the long- closed station. The Labor letterbox- drop machine swung cunningly into action with a last- minute promise from Ashford sitting Member Steph Key. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Why all the above?
In the name of sanity, the last thing that our beleaguered State needs is a re-run of that commuter farce…a State Government in power on a parish-pump platform (no pun intended).
But what is threatening to happen in the months still before us?
Lo and behold. a public battle of bitter words between the Labor and Liberal camps on just who has so far scored most goals in the battle for boasting points over the need for the upgrading of facilities at Goodwood Oval, which lies in the re-figured, renamed Ashford constituency…now known as Badcoe.
Watch this space.
At the last State election Labor out-manoeuvred the Liberals over the Millswood railway station and the resultant Labor win in Ashford (now Badcoe) gave Labor Government. That’s all history now.
But will funding for Goodwood Oval be as hot an issue. I’m beginning to think not.
