Burma-bound?> Beware. It’s still a war zone.

October 24, 2017

It’s more than a couple of decades since I had the pleasure and privilege of  meandering (as an independent traveller) between Rangoon and Mandalay, constricted by  the tribal tensions that made any tourist travel further north  a no-no.

Today those same racial differences have seen hundreds of thousands of marginalised people  from the north flee to neighouring Bangladesh.

Presumably the tourist firms now offering eleven-day Irrawaddy  River  cruises have taken all the above into account and won’t let their passengers stray too far from the banks of the Irrawaddy….

Meanwhile, of all the Asian countries,  my vote still goes to my beloved Nepal.
