Heritage and Mr Haese.

October 25, 2017

Good to see our Lord Mayor coming out on the side of heritage buildings…

In a “think piece” in today’s Advertiser, Mr Haese mourns the loss of so much of Adelaide’s built past, quoting the  disgraceful  demise so many years ago of the Aurora Hotel, a pavement protest that “Grumpy” participated in.

Sadly, though,  it’s not just buildings that suffer the slings of  insensitivity. Witness the ongoing, crass  treatment of our city’s contribution to the world stage of military memories.

It would seem that there is little hope of anyone out there being able to prevent the  appalling, insensitive treatment being handed out to South Australia’s unique place  in the history of the First World War.

Not only should the Dardanelles Cenotaph NOT be hijacked onto Memorial Walk, but it should be returned to its original site on Sir Lewis Cohen Avenue, a plea put forward to Adelaide City Council back in 2013 by a leading military organisation…
